Under the leadership of our Presiding Prelate, Bishop Claude L. Campbell, the late Bishop Marvin D. Williams, and the late Bishop Connie L. Curry, Bishop Wright was ordained as a Southern District Overseer. In the year 2008, Bishop Wright was consecrated to the sacred office of Bishop. In the year 2014, Bishop Wright was consecrated as Vice Bishop of the Southern District. Bishop Wright is currently serving as the United Church of God General Vice Bishop, Chairman of the General Board of Directors, Southern District Bishop and Pastor of True Gospel.
Most importantly, Bishop Wright is Saved, Sanctified, and Holy Ghost filled. He loves the Lord and his utmost desire is to please God in all things, point the lost to Christ, and to edify the body of Christ. His favorite passage of scripture can be found in II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new”.
Bishop Samuel Wright | Chairman of the General board of directors
Bishop Samuel Wright was born in Southern Pines, North Carolina, and attended West Southern Pines High School. He furthered his education at Guilford Technical Community College, Greensboro, NC. Bishop Samuel Wright was affiliated with Christ Memorial Church of God, Rockingham, North Carolina and later joined St. Peter United Church of God, Eastwood, North Carolina under the leadership of the late Bishop Dan Hayes. While at St. Peter, he joined the youth choir and participated in many youth functions. It was at St. Peter that he met Olivia Jackson and was married on November 1, 1969. They have one daughter. Tamika (Jason), three grandsons, Jalen, Jackson, Jacen, one great granddaughter, Serenity, and two great grandsons, Elijah, and Messiah.
Bishop Wright and his wife moved to Greensboro, NC, and joined Mt. Zion United Church of God. While at Mt. Zion, Bishop Wright participated in various house to house prayers and Bible Studies. He served as President of the Youth Department, Vice Chairman of the Board of Deacons, member of the Youth Choir, Crusade Choir, and the Mt. Zion Brotherhood. For many years Bishop Wright served as Vice President of the United Church of God Southern District Youth Department with Sister Gaynell Lowery as Youth President. Later, he became the president of the Southern District Youth Department and served faithfully.
While at Mt Zion under the leadership of the late Bishop V. D. Purcell, he accepted the call of God into the ministry and was assigned to serve as pastor of St. James United Church of God, Charlotte, North Carolina. After seven years of dedicated service to St. James, Bishop Wright was assigned to True Gospel United Church of God, Sanford, North Carolina where he is currently serving as pastor; recently celebrating 34 years of dedicated service preaching and teaching the True Gospel.
